The Indian government has appointed senior diplomat Vipul as the country’s new ambassador to Saudi Arabia. He is the first Hindu IFS officer to become the Ambassador of India to Saudi Arabia. Earlier, this responsibility was with Dr. Suhail Ijaz Khan, who took over as Ambassador to Saudi Arabia on 16 January 2023. The Ministry of External Affairs said that Vipul will soon take charge in Saudi Arabia. Presently he is the Ambassador of India to Qatar and has extensive experience of working in the Gulf region. Vipul, a 1998 batch IFS officer, has represented India in many countries in his career.
Vipul has been made the ambassador of Saudi Arabia at a time when there is tension in West Asia and the importance of Saudi Arabia is continuously increasing in the region. In his long career, Vipul has served in Indian missions in Cairo, Colombo, Geneva and Dubai. There he handled important areas like political relations, trade, development partnership, international security, disarmament and media matters. His contribution in the Foreign Ministry was also special. From 2014 to 2017, he was Joint Secretary and worked on many important issues to India’s foreign policy. After this, he was the Consulate General of India in Dubai from 2017 to 2020. His long experience in Gulf countries is considered his biggest quality.
In the last few years, there has been an increase in trade, investment, energy, defense and strategic partnership between India and Saudi Arabia. A large number of Indian community also lives in Saudi Arabia. In such a situation, Vipul’s appointment is being considered very important and important. Experts believe that his experience will further strengthen the relations between the two countries.
