Set a time limit for screen time

While it is not possible to completely keep children away from mobile phones, it is necessary to set a time limit for it. Children gradually adopt new habits if they make it a habit to use mobile phones or TV only at certain times of the day. According to the World Health Organization limited screen time is considered more appropriate for young children.

Give priority to outdoor sports

The more children play outdoors, do outdoor activities, the more their attention stays away from the screen. Activities such as cycling, cricket, badminton, football or an evening walk in the park increase children’s physical activity and reduce their screen time. It also develops confidence and social skills.

Engage in creative activities

If it is not possible to go outside because of the heat, children should be engaged in creative activities such as drawing, painting, reading books, puzzles, crafts or learning music at home. Such things help children to develop their imagination.

Spend time with family

Children’s dependence on screens can be reduced if parents foster habits such as playing board games with children, chatting or eating together. It is considered a good habit to turn off the mobile phone or TV especially while eating.

Parents also need to set an example

Children often imitate their parents. So it becomes difficult to control children if parents themselves are constantly busy with mobile phones. Adults in the home also need to set a good example for children by reducing screen time.
