New Delhi. Amidst the increasing military tension between America and Iran, American President Donald Trump has faced a major setback in his own Parliament. The ‘House of Representatives’, the lower house of the American Parliament, has approved a proposal to stop the war against Iran.

The purpose of this proposal brought under the leadership of the Democratic Party was to ban any kind of war against Iran without the permission of the Parliament (Congress). During this period, it has become clear from the voting that the concern among American lawmakers regarding the possibility of war with Iran has increased significantly. The special thing is that the MPs of President Trump’s own party i.e. the Republican Party also changed sides on the Iran war.

    Proposal passed with 7 votes

A tough contest was seen in the House on ‘War Powers Resolution’. 215 votes were cast in favor of the proposal, while 208 MPs voted against it. Although Trump’s Republican Party has a slight majority in both the houses, yet Trump failed to stop this proposal. During this voting, four MPs of the Republican Party went against the stand of their own party and voted in favor of the Democrats. This is no less than a big setback for Trump in Congress.

What option does Trump have now?

Parliament experts say that this voting is largely symbolic at the moment. To make this proposal legally effective, it will still have to be passed by the ‘Senate’, the upper house of the US Parliament. After this, if Trump vetoes this proposal, then a two-thirds majority in both houses will be required to neutralize that veto, which is very difficult.

However, this decision is considered very important, because three proposals limiting the rights of war were presented in the Parliament. But he failed by a very narrow margin. Apart from this, last month the US Senate also put forward a similar proposal during a procedural voting. It was successful in the Senate also after seven failed attempts.
