The Saudi Arabian national football team is drawing particular attention ahead of the 2026 World Cup, scheduled for Wednesday, 3 June 2026.
Amid the ongoing debate over the soaring ticket prices, the Saudi Arabian government has taken a different approach by offering free match tickets to its supporters residing in the United States (US).
This initiative has received official approval from FIFA, the governing body of the world’s most prestigious football tournament.
Saudi Arabia’s move has become a major talking point, especially as criticism continues to mount over the high cost of World Cup 2026 tickets.
Many fans have argued that the prices are excessively high, potentially limiting access for supporters who wish to experience the matches live in stadiums.
Ticket price surges are largely attributed to FIFA’s implementation of a dynamic pricing system, which allows ticket costs to fluctuate automatically based on market demand.
Due to the overwhelming interest in attending the matches, ticket prices have seen significant increases.
According to BBC Sport, prices for 90 out of the 104 total matches have risen by as much as 34 percent.
The situation has drawn even more attention as resale prices for the final match tickets have reportedly reached as high as 2 million US dollars.
Converted to Indonesian Rupiah, this amounts to approximately IDR 35 billion.
In response to widespread criticism, FIFA introduced a new supporter entry tier category with ticket prices starting at 60 US dollars, or around IDR 1 million.
While the debate over expensive tickets continues, Saudi Arabia has adopted a contrasting policy.
The Kingdom’s government, through the Saudi Arabian Embassy in the United States, announced the distribution of free tickets to Saudi fans based in the US.
The information was first shared through the embassy’s official account on platform X.
As reported by BolaSport.com, the initiative aims to provide maximum support for the Saudi national team during their participation in the 2026 World Cup.
The Saudi government hopes that the presence of their fans in the stadiums will serve as a source of motivation for the Green Falcons, also known as Al-Akhdar, throughout the group stage matches.
FIFA has reportedly granted approval for this programme, ensuring that the ticket distribution process will comply with all official regulations.
The free ticket programme is expected to ease the financial burden on Saudi supporters following their team across the tournament.
Each fan could potentially save up to 3,000 US dollars, equivalent to around IDR 53 million, in match ticket expenses.
With this facility in place, Saudi supporters can focus more on giving their full backing to the national team during the four-yearly global football spectacle.
In the 2026 World Cup, Saudi Arabia is set to face a tough group stage challenge.
Under the guidance of coach Herve Renard, the team will compete against Uruguay, Spain, and Cape Verde in their quest to secure a place in the knockout rounds.
In addition to the free ticket programme, Saudi Arabia has also announced its 26-player squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Experienced players such as Salem Al Dawsari, Mohamed Kanno, Saud Abdulhamid, and Feras Al Brikan are once again expected to play key roles for the team.
The presence of these seasoned players is anticipated to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s competitiveness in a challenging group.
Moreover, the strong backing from thousands of fans supported by the government’s free ticket initiative is believed to provide an added boost of energy for the Green Falcons as they aim to achieve positive results on football’s biggest stage.
