The Indonesia National Football Team will face a tough challenge when they host Oman in an international FIFA Matchday friendly on Friday, 5 June 2026, at 20:00 WIB, at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) in Jakarta.

This fixture serves as an important part of the Garuda squad’s preparations ahead of their next FIFA Matchday match against Mozambique on 9 June.

Both Indonesia and Oman arrive with less-than-convincing form after failing to progress from the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.

Indonesia had to concede superiority to Iraq and Saudi Arabia, while Oman were defeated by Qatar and only managed a draw against the United Arab Emirates.

Despite missing out on the World Cup, both teams have secured qualification for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup, which will be held in Saudi Arabia.

Under the guidance of coach John Herdman, the Indonesian national team is in the process of rebuilding its performance following the end of Patrick Kluivert’s tenure in October 2025.

In two previous friendly matches, Herdman’s side recorded one win and one loss — a 4-0 victory over St. Kitts and Nevis and a narrow 0-1 defeat against Bulgaria.

Overall, Indonesia’s recent form has been underwhelming. In their last 13 matches, the Garuda have won only four, lost seven, and struggled to find the net on several occasions.

The head-to-head record also doesn’t favour Indonesia. In their last four encounters with Oman, the Garuda have never won — suffering three defeats and earning one draw. Their most recent meeting in Dubai in 2021 ended in a 1-3 loss for Indonesia.

However, ahead of the fixture, Herdman expressed optimism about his players’ progress during the training camp.

“Their intensity has been very good and they quickly got back into the team rhythm. We were also able to revisit what worked well and fix the weaknesses,” said Herdman, as quoted by Kita Garuda.

The Canadian coach views the clash against Oman as a crucial benchmark to gauge the team’s development, given that Oman have more experience at the Asian level.

“Oman are an experienced team that knows how to win matches in this confederation. Our challenge is to learn how to beat teams of that quality,” he added.

Head-to-Head Record

Based on statistics and previous meetings, Oman remain the favourites to get a positive result. However, home support is expected to boost Indonesia’s motivation to secure a win.

A victory over Oman could also improve Indonesia’s position in the FIFA rankings.

If the Garuda manage to collect three points, they could move closer to 118th place in the world, surpassing several nations such as Togo, Namibia, Sierra Leone, and North Korea, depending on other results during the same period.

Current FIFA Rankings
