Juventus have redirected their attention towards Emiliano Martinez following the collapse of their deal to sign Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker. Although reports suggested that the Brazilian had agreed to personal terms with the Italian giants, Liverpool have refused to approve the transfer, compelling the Bianconeri to seek other options before the new season begins.

Liverpool remain adamant about keeping Alisson

The long-standing chase for Alisson by Juventus now seems to have reached its conclusion. Despite the goalkeeper reportedly finalising personal terms with the Serie A club several months ago, Liverpool have maintained their firm position and have no plans to sell him this summer. The Premier League side have also activated a 12-month extension on his contract, reinforcing their intent to retain the Brazilian star.

The Merseyside club are focused on maintaining consistency within their squad after the exits of a few senior players. Even with internal changes at Anfield, Liverpool’s stance on Alisson remains unchanged, leaving Juventus with limited room to negotiate. As a result, the Turin-based side have started to evaluate alternative options in the transfer market.

Martinez becomes the main target

With the Alisson pursuit fading, Emiliano Martinez has emerged as Juventus’ top goalkeeping target. According to Gazzetta, the Aston Villa goalkeeper and 2022 World Cup winner is open to a fresh challenge away from Villa Park. At 33, Martinez brings the experience and winning mentality that Luciano Spalletti is looking for to anchor the Juventus defence in the upcoming campaign.

The Argentine goalkeeper is currently valued at around €20 million, a figure that fits within Juventus’s financial framework. However, his annual net salary of €6 million poses a significant challenge for the Bianconeri, who are striving to manage their wage structure while securing a top-quality shot-stopper.

Vicario remains a possible alternative

Juventus are also keeping close tabs on Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. The 29-year-old Italian has long expressed a desire to return to Serie A and was previously close to joining Inter Milan. However, the Nerazzurri eventually opted for Josep Martinez, leaving Juventus with a potential opportunity to move for the former Empoli player if they decide to proceed.

Vicario’s current contract with Spurs runs until 2028, but the Premier League club could be willing to engage in discussions. Like Martinez, his market value is estimated at around €20 million. Importantly, his salary expectations, between €3 million and €4 million per year, align more closely with Juventus’s financial planning compared to Martinez’s higher demands.

Crucial choice before pre-season

Juventus are set to accelerate their search for a new first-choice goalkeeper as part of a broader squad overhaul. The club is also preparing for potential changes up front, including a possible move away from Dusan Vlahovic, with funds being reallocated to strengthen other key areas.

Finding a dependable number one remains a top priority before pre-season begins. The Bianconeri must now decide between pursuing Martinez’s proven international pedigree or opting for the more financially sustainable option in Vicario as they continue reshaping Luciano Spalletti’s team for the upcoming season.
