The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has initiated the application process for the re-evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets, with the deadline for applications set for June 6. However, CBSE has not yet announced when the results of this re-evaluation will be declared. Applications for re-evaluation have been invited following the controversy and the drop in students' results attributed to the 'On-Screen Marking' (OSM) system used for Class 12 answer sheets. Amidst the uproar surrounding OSM, demands have arisen for the re-evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets to be conducted manually. The Government School Teachers Association (GSTA) has submitted a suggestion to CBSE in this regard.

Let us understand the entire matter in detail. We will look at what the GSTA has said regarding the demand for manual re-evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets and explore the controversy surrounding OSM.

**Students and parents unhappy with OSM**
GSTA General Secretary Ajay Veer Yadav stated that technical issues in the CBSE Class 12 re-evaluation process are preventing the resolution of concerns raised by a large number of students. It also appears that students and parents will not be fully satisfied if the OSM system is applied to the re-evaluation process. Yadav suggested that, keeping this in mind, CBSE should conduct the re-evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets manually if the need arises.

**There should be no dissatisfaction regarding results**
GSTA General Secretary Ajay Veer Yadav remarked that even a single mark could impact a student's higher education, admissions, and prospects. Therefore, it must be ensured that no student feels dissatisfied with the results of Class 12—a crucial stage in their lives. All necessary measures should be taken to achieve this.

Teachers Ready for Manual Re-evaluation
Ajay Veer Yadav, General Secretary of the GSTA, has stated that teachers are prepared to manually re-evaluate Class 12 answer sheets. He added that the GSTA believes the current situation is a consequence of ignoring timely suggestions regarding the OSM system. The problem lies not in the government's intent, but in the failure to take stakeholders' suggestions seriously at the administrative level.

Committee Formed to Probe OSM
CBSE had utilized the OSM system to evaluate Class 12 answer sheets this year, but the experiment proved unsuccessful. When the process of obtaining scanned copies began, students raised numerous complaints—ranging from blurred scans and incorrect marking to the swapping or loss of answer sheets. Serious questions were raised about the OSM system, sparking a nationwide outcry. In response, the government has constituted a one-member committee to investigate the OSM tender.
