The excitement for Argentina’s National Football Team ahead of the 2026 World Cup has reached Papua, with supporters in Jayapura preparing to celebrate in their own way.

The Albiceleste fan community in Jayapura is planning to hold a fun walk event on Saturday, 6 June 2026, as a show of unity and enthusiasm for the upcoming global football festival.

Tina, one of the organizers, emphasized that the event is open to everyone, especially those who support Argentina.

“Anyone can join; this is especially for Argentina fans,” she said during an interview in Jayapura on Friday, 5 June 2026.

The fun walk is scheduled to take place in the Dok II area of Jayapura next weekend.

Participants will wear Argentina-themed gear such as the iconic blue-and-white jerseys, flags, and Lionel Messi-inspired accessories.

In addition to the fun walk, organizers have also prepared live music, a World Cup-themed quiz, and a photo session aimed at strengthening camaraderie among supporters.

This event is not only about light exercise but also serves as a gathering platform for Argentina’s fan community in Jayapura.

They hope to demonstrate that supporting their favourite team can be expressed in a positive, healthy, and communal way.

The enthusiasm of Papuans for Argentina has been evident for decades. From the era of Diego Maradona to Lionel Messi, many locals have passionately supported the Albiceleste. That admiration grew even stronger after Argentina’s triumph at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Through this fun walk, fans hope to share the spirit of sportsmanship and love for football with the broader community.

“We want to show that supporting a team isn’t just about watching on TV—it can also be celebrated together through real activities,” Tina added.

The organizers hope this fun walk will become a regular event whenever Argentina competes in major tournaments, helping to strengthen the fan community in Jayapura and make it more widely recognized.
