England will participate in an additional pre-World Cup friendly as part of their preparations for the tournament later this month.
Thomas Tuchel’s side are set to face Miami United, a fourth-tier club from the United States, in a training match at Palm Beach Gardens.
The National Premier Soccer League outfit will visit England’s training base in Florida between Saturday’s official friendly against New Zealand in Tampa and next Wednesday’s final warm-up encounter with Costa Rica in Orlando.
This upcoming game will not be a conventional 90-minute fixture. Instead, it will serve as a controlled practice session for England to test tactical combinations and rehearse set-piece routines. The match is expected to be played as an 11-v-11 contest but at reduced intensity.
Tuchel and his coaching staff are placing significant emphasis on set pieces this summer, aiming to handle the hot North American conditions by creating more scoring opportunities from dead-ball situations and conserving player energy throughout the competition.
In the United States, such informal practice matches between teams are commonly referred to as “scrimmages.”
Miami United, the oldest football club in the city, are managed by Claudio Frean, who previously coached Haiti’s Under-20 national team.
Saturday’s fixture against New Zealand will mark England’s first appearance in Miami since a goalless draw with Honduras before their ill-fated 2014 World Cup campaign in Brazil.
During the group stage of the World Cup, England will take on Croatia, Ghana, and Panama. The team will be hoping to secure a favourable route into the knockout rounds, though they may face the host nation in the Round of 16, which could pose a significant challenge as the tournament progresses.
