PONTIANAK – The Deputy Governor of West Kalimantan, Krisantus Kurniawan, has expressed his support for the German national team to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to him, the German team has long been his favourite.

Krisantus stated that he has admired Germany’s style of play for a long time, especially their discipline and consistency in nurturing new generations of players.

The German national team is currently coached by Julian Nagelsmann, who has successfully blended senior and young talents within a single squad.

Experienced players such as Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich, and Antonio Rüdiger form the backbone of the team.

Meanwhile, young stars like Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz continue to receive ample opportunities to develop their skills.

This combination keeps Germany among the most competitive teams on the world stage.

He also encouraged the public, especially football enthusiasts, to enjoy the matches or play the sport themselves as a way of showing love for football.

However, amid the World Cup excitement, Krisantus drew attention to the state of Indonesian football, which he believes still falls short compared to the country’s population of over 270 million.

“The Netherlands has far fewer people, yet they can compete at the global level and have even reached the World Cup final. Indonesia has abundant human resources, so it should be able to produce high-quality players,” he said at the West Kalimantan Governor’s Office on Jalan Jendral Ahmad Yani, Pontianak City, on Thursday, June 4, 2026.
