Mateus Fernandes’s representatives are reportedly confident that the West Ham United midfielder will complete a move to Manchester United this summer, with the Red Devils’ co-owners INEOS planning to launch a £75million offer.
Manchester United have already secured a deal for Atalanta’s defensive midfielder Ederson Silva, and INEOS are now keen to add another top-quality player to strengthen the centre of the pitch.
Fernandes has emerged as a key target for United after delivering strong performances for West Ham throughout the season.
Following West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League, it appears highly unlikely that Fernandes will feature for the Hammers in the Championship next season.
Manchester United have already held discussions with Fernandes’s representatives regarding a possible summer move to Old Trafford in 2026.
The Portuguese international midfielder is also believed to be very eager to make the switch from West Ham to Manchester United during the upcoming transfer window.
However, West Ham are not prepared to let him leave for a discounted fee, with reports suggesting the club are demanding around £80million for the 21-year-old star.
Real Madrid have also entered the race for Fernandes, with Jose Mourinho reportedly interested in signing his fellow Portuguese player.
Mourinho is expected to take over as Real Madrid’s manager if Florentino Perez wins the club’s presidential elections this weekend.
The former Manchester United and Chelsea boss is said to be personally enthusiastic about bringing Fernandes to the Estadio Bernabeu.
Nevertheless, sources close to the player suggest that Fernandes’s agents remain assured that their client will ultimately join Manchester United.
Journalist Shaun Connolly commented that Manchester United are aware of the increasing interest in Mateus Fernandes, though some of the reports have been exaggerated. He added that negotiations are still ongoing and that Fernandes is highly admired by many within Old Trafford.
Spanish journalist Ruben Martin has also confirmed Real Madrid’s interest in Fernandes but indicated that Manchester United are ready to make a strong financial move for the youngster. Martin stated that Fernandes may not be a widely known name, yet his price tag remains high, with United capable of bidding aggressively, potentially offering around £75million.
