This type of scam usually starts with a message. Scammers send messages, links and try to target people via WhatsApp, SMS, email or social media. When a user falls into the scammer’s web and clicks on the link, the malware gets installed on their phone. Once the malware is installed, full control of your phone goes to the scammer. After this, scammers can see all the messages and OTPs coming to your phone.
In the Mumbai incident too, the scammers gained full access to the phone of the person concerned and then reset the phone and transferred the money. This caused all the apps and data in the phone to disappear. When the user turned on the phone, all the money was transferred to the scammers’ account. (Photo Courtesy – Pinterest)
It is very important for users to be careful to stay safe from cyber fraud and scams. Even your little carelessness can lead to big damage.
