Tezzbuzz Desk- The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has taken a major decision regarding Ashwagandha, which is widely used in Ayurvedic products and health supplements in the country. The authority has banned the use of Ashwagandha leaves and extracts prepared from them. After the new instructions, companies will be able to use only Ashwagandha root and its extract in food products and health supplements.
According to FSSAI, there is not enough scientific evidence available regarding the effects of consuming Ashwagandha leaves and their safety. Experts believe that before any substance is approved for food or medicinal use, it is necessary to have a clear scientific basis for its safety and effectiveness. For this reason, it has been decided to ban the use of Ashwagandha leaves.
Ashwagandha is considered a very important medicinal plant in Ayurveda. It has been used in traditional medicine to increase body strength, reduce stress and strengthen immunity. Its root has been described as especially beneficial in Ayurvedic texts.
According to Ayurvedic experts, consumption of Ashwagandha is considered helpful in reducing mental stress and anxiety. Apart from this, it can also help in better sleep, physical energy and increased stamina. This is the reason why it is used in many health supplements and Ayurvedic products in the market today.
Although many potential benefits of Ashwagandha are reported, consuming it in excess can also be harmful. Due to this, problems like stomach upset, nausea, diarrhea, excessive sleep and dizziness can occur. Therefore, it should always be used as per expert advice and in prescribed quantity.
FSSAI has clarified that Ashwagandha leaves should not be used. If a person consumes Ashwagandha based products, he must check the ingredients and quantity information of the product. If you feel any kind of discomfort, you should immediately contact a doctor or Ayurveda expert.
After the new rules, many changes can be seen in the Ayurvedic and health supplement industry, because now the product manufacturers will have to use only Ashwagandha root based ingredients.
