According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City are set to make a fresh official offer for Elliot Anderson, who is also a major target for Manchester United.
Anderson has become one of the most promising midfielders in the Premier League, after delivering impressive performances for Nottingham Forest over the past two seasons.
For several months, it has been expected that Anderson would secure a move to one of the Premier League’s Big Six clubs this summer, with Manchester City and Manchester United the two most serious contenders for his signature.
The England international has been identified as a top target by both Manchester clubs, but Romano has stated that Manchester City remain the favourites to sign him.
Earlier in June, well-known journalist David Ornstein reported that Nottingham Forest had rejected City’s opening bid for Anderson. However, Romano has now revealed that the Premier League champions are preparing a new official proposal.
Romano shared on X: “Manchester City are preparing a new official bid to be sent soon to Nottingham Forest for Elliot Anderson.
“#MCFC are confident of completing the deal after leading the race since March.
“Manchester United remain interested but City are ahead and optimistic.”
Speaking further on his YouTube channel, Romano added that Manchester City “remain confident” and “believe the player wants the move”, while they are pushing to “finalise the transfer as quickly as possible”.
Meanwhile, Manchester Evening News journalist Tyrone Marshall stated that Manchester United could still have a chance to sign Anderson if City step away from negotiations and United decide to “outbid their neighbours”.
Marshall told Manchester Evening News: “There’s been no major update from United’s side regarding Anderson. Manchester City reportedly had a bid turned down earlier this week and continue to lead the race. The Etihad Stadium is still Anderson’s preferred destination.
“If City find the financials unfavourable, United could re-enter the picture. They’ve previously shown a willingness to outbid City, though under the current ownership structure, that scenario is less certain.”
Reports suggest Nottingham Forest are demanding at least £100 million for Anderson, but former City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips believes the final fee could be lower.
Speaking to Betway, Wright-Phillips said: “He’s a brilliant player, but the issue in modern football is that club owners attach massive price tags to players, regardless of whether they’re truly worth that amount. It’s simply about setting a price they want.”
He added: “It’s interesting because the most City have ever spent on a player is £100 million, and that was an exceptional case. I’d be surprised to see any English club go that high again.
“Still, Anderson will attract attention from all top clubs — he’s that talented and consistent in his performances.”
