Rohit Sharma, the former captain of Team India, has arrived in Chandigarh to participate in a training session in Mullanpur as the team prepares for a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, commencing on June 13.
The entire squad gathered in Mullanpur before traveling to Dharmashala, where they will face Afghanistan in the series opener at HPCA Stadium. Recently, Rohit successfully passed fitness evaluations and received clearance from the medical team at the BCCI Centre of Excellence, confirming his recovery from a recent injury.
The 39-year-old player experienced a hamstring strain during IPL 2026, which kept him out of five consecutive matches. Although he made a return, he played as an Impact Player to avoid further strain on his hamstring.

As Rohit joined the ODI squad in Chandigarh and began his training, his kind-hearted nature shone through, a characteristic he has displayed since his international debut.
A video that gained popularity on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), captured a moment when Rohit, already on the team bus, noticed a young fan eagerly waiting outside. Without hesitation, he signaled the security to pause the bus and invited the young admirer aboard.
The fan boarded the bus and took a selfie with Rohit before he returned to his seat.

Despite no longer being the captain, Rohit remains a beloved figure among fans due to his approachable personality and candid interactions.
With Virat Kohli sidelined due to a hamstring injury and Hardik Pandya also unavailable, Rohit is expected to play a crucial role in leading the batting lineup for the ODI series against Afghanistan.
Having shifted his focus to ODIs after retiring from Tests and T20Is, Rohit aims to extend his career until the 2027 ODI World Cup, which will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. In IPL 2026, he scored 283 runs, including two fifties, with an average of 35.37 and a strike rate of 157.22 over nine matches.
Rohit has been training hard in the nets, preparing alongside Shreyas Iyer. Both players have shown good form against both spin and fast bowling.
The selectors will closely monitor Rohit's performance in the upcoming series, as it is crucial for assessing his role in the team's strategy leading up to the 2027 World Cup.
This ODI series against Afghanistan is not just about regaining match fitness for Rohit but also about solidifying his position as a key player in the batting order.
