Roberto De Zerbi is already stirring activity in the transfer market as he aims to overhaul his Tottenham Hotspur squad. However, a potential move for Moise Kean appears far less likely than some reports have indicated. Although the former Everton forward has been linked with a return to the Premier League, a close associate of the Spurs head coach has expressed doubts about the deal actually materialising.
Viviano sceptical about Kean’s Tottenham links
Despite speculation that De Zerbi has identified Fiorentina striker Kean as a possible summer signing, former Italy goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano has cast doubt on those rumours. Viviano, a long-time friend of the Tottenham manager, revealed that while De Zerbi has spoken about numerous players he admires, Kean has never been among the main subjects of discussion.
Speaking to Radio Firenze Viola, Viviano remarked: “I’m not sure where Kean might end up or which clubs are truly interested. Regarding Tottenham, I don’t believe that much in the rumour. I know De Zerbi well, and he has mentioned several players he likes, but never him.”
Spurs’ attacking competition poses a challenge
Even if De Zerbi were to pursue the Italian international, Tottenham’s frontline is already filled with attacking talent. The north London outfit features several high-profile forwards, meaning that the club would likely need to offload at least one player before adding another striker this summer at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Viviano highlighted this challenge, saying: “They would first need to sell one of [Randal] Kolo Muani, Richarlison, or [Dominic] Solanke.”
Given the number of attacking options already available, Kean’s route to securing consistent match time in London looks increasingly complicated. Kolo Muani is set to depart Spurs as his loan spell from Paris Saint-Germain concludes.
De Zerbi’s appreciation for Kean’s qualities
Although earlier reports suggested that De Zerbi admires Kean’s abilities, the Tottenham boss has long shown a preference for multi-functional attackers. Kean’s versatility allows him to play both as a central striker and on the flanks. Despite an uneven goal record this season—with eight goals in 26 Serie A appearances—his reputation remains strong after a prolific previous campaign in which he scored 25 goals across 44 matches.
Tottenham are in urgent need of attacking reinforcements this summer, having narrowly escaped relegation to the Championship on the final day of the season, scoring only 48 goals throughout the campaign. Kean, who has netted 13 goals in 26 appearances for Italy, has demonstrated that he can perform effectively at the top level when properly supported—making him an attractive target for a Spurs side in need of firepower.
Other options under consideration and the Ramos alternative
Though Kean remains on the radar, Tottenham are exploring several alternative options as the transfer window approaches. Reports indicate that Paris Saint-Germain’s Goncalo Ramos has also been offered to Spurs, giving the recruitment staff a different type of forward to assess if a move for Kean proves difficult. The Portuguese international, fresh off a Champions League triumph with PSG, is reportedly eager to find more consistent playing time elsewhere.
