A big controversy has arisen in Maharashtra over a stand-up comedy show that went viral on social media. In this case, Maharashtra Cyber Police has registered an FIR against comedian Praneet More and some other people associated with his show. It is alleged that during the show, objectionable comments were made on topics to women, social values and public decency, videos of which later went viral on social media. After the controversy escalated, the police started investigating the matter and now the scope of legal action has also increased.
According to the FIR lodged at the Nodal Cyber Police Station of Maharashtra Cyber Police, action has been taken against the accused under various sections of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS) 2023 and Section 67 of the IT Act. Police say that in the investigation of viral content, many such videos have come to light, in which the things said on public platform are considered against social decorum and rules of digital platform.
The controversy started with a video which was shared on social media with the name ‘370 Ki Biryani’. This video is said to be a part of comedian Praneet More’s show. There was a sharp reaction on social media regarding some of the comments of Himanshu Jangra present in the video. Many people alleged that derogatory and insensitive things were said towards women in the video.
According to investigating agencies, the viral clip contained comments on serious topics like dating and women’s consent, which many people considered objectionable. After this, debate started on social media and a large number of people demanded action. In view of the increasing complaints and public reaction on digital platforms, the Cyber Police took cognizance of the matter. Experts believe that in the era of social media, the responsibility for what is said on a public platform has increased more than ever before, because any content can reach millions of people within a few minutes.
During the investigation of the case, another video came into discussion, in which questions were also raised regarding the comments of Dr. Sejal Pawar. According to the police, the video allegedly contained topics to medical education and to dead persons, which were considered against public decency. On this basis, the scope of investigation was expanded and other concerned people were also included in the case.
Maharashtra Cyber Police has issued summons to comedians Praneet More, Himanshu Jangra and Dr. Sejal Pawar for questioning and recording their statements. Officials say that currently the investigation of the case is going on and digital evidence is being examined. After completion of the investigation, further legal action will be taken based on the available facts. This entire incident has once again sparked a new debate regarding social media content, freedom of expression and its limits.
