Houston: Despite suffering a 7-1 defeat to the formidable German team in their inaugural FIFA World Cup match, the atmosphere within the Curaçao camp remains upbeat. In fact, the mood is quite the opposite of gloomy.

Coach Dick Advocaat, who made history as the oldest coach at the World Cup at the age of 78, expressed immense pride when addressing the media. He lauded the courageous effort displayed by his small Caribbean nation against a football giant.

“For a nation with a mere population of 158,000 to step onto the world stage and challenge a team like Germany is a significant achievement. There are numerous positives to glean from this experience,” he stated. “Competing against a world-class team like Germany in our very first World Cup match is a daunting task for anyone. Although the outcome wasn't favorable, I am thoroughly pleased with the discipline and bravery my players exhibited on the pitch. I am incredibly proud of them,” he added.

Advocaat further remarked, “Scoring Curaçao's first-ever World Cup goal, especially against Germany, marks a historic milestone. The joy that Livano Comenencia's goal brought to millions back home is indescribable. The fact that we managed to equalize at 1-1 at one point significantly boosted our confidence.”

He noted that the match served as a valuable lesson regarding the intensity of World Cup football. Acknowledging that a few minor defensive errors contributed to the lopsided score, Advocaat assured that the team would implement strategic adjustments for their upcoming group matches and expressed unwavering confidence in their potential to advance to the next round.
