Latest news from the world of football — the Egypt national team has been instructed to make modifications to their kit ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to Diario AS, FIFA has requested two specific changes to Egypt’s jersey: the removal of the stars above the national emblem and an adjustment to the colour of the numbers on the back of the shirt. The directive was issued on Saturday (June 13, 2026).
Previously, Egypt proudly displayed seven stars above their crest, each representing one of the nation’s African Cup of Nations titles.
The team has clinched the continental tournament in 1957, 1959, 1986, 1998, 2006, 2008, and 2010, making them the most successful side in the history of the African Cup of Nations.
Under FIFA regulations, only World Cup titles can be represented by stars on a national team’s badge during the World Cup. As Egypt has never won the FIFA World Cup, they are required to remove the stars from their emblem.
Egyptian Football Association (EFA) media officer Mohamed Morad Thabet told ESPN that FIFA’s request had been submitted several months earlier (June 13, 2026).
He also added that Puma, the company responsible for Egypt’s kits, would need to change the colour of the jersey numbers.
The federation has asked that the numbers be altered from gold to white to ensure better visibility on the field.
The Egyptian national team returns to the World Cup for the first time since 2018, when they were eliminated in the group stage in Russia after losing all three of their matches.
They had also participated in the tournaments in 1934 and 1990 but failed to win a single game in either edition.
In the 2026 World Cup, Egypt has been drawn into Group G alongside Belgium, Iran, and New Zealand.
According to Nofi Setiawan, a World Cup 2026 jersey vendor from Mojosongo, Solo, Central Java, Egypt is expected to face a tough battle with Iran in the group.
“The fiercest competition will likely be between Egypt and Iran,” Nofi Setiawan told TribunWow.com on Wednesday (June 10, 2026).
In addition to Egypt and Iran, Belgium is also projected to pose a serious challenge in the group stage.
