New Delhi: The fire of rebellion within West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s party Trinamool Congress (TMC) has now completely spread to the doorstep of Delhi. Senior TMC leaders continue to arrive to attend a huge meeting of rebel MPs which is going to be held in Delhi this evening.

But meanwhile on Sunday, tremendous high-voltage drama was witnessed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport when Saayoni Ghosh, considered very close to Mamata Banerjee and Lok Sabha MP from Jadavpur, landed there. The news of Sayoni Ghosh, who once became a shield for Mamata Banerjee from Parliament to the streets, now joining the rebel camp, has taken the stir in the political circles of the country to the seventh sky.

Sayoni’s temper rises when journalists surround her at Delhi airport

As soon as journalists surrounded Sayoni Ghosh at Delhi airport, the atmosphere there became very tense and heated. The journalists asked him direct and sharp questions, not on any other topic, but on an old and very popular statement of his on social media.

Journalists asked Sayoni, “Madam, just some time ago you had roared and attacked the opposition in the Parliament and said that ‘I am not a Chadha who can become Chaddi’… then what happened today that you yourself have left Mamata Banerjee and TMC and stood with this rebel group?”

I will answer among the people of Jadavpur, Sayoni scolded the media

On hearing this tough question, MP Sayoni Ghosh’s temper skyrocketed. She said in a very harsh and angry tone in front of the cameras of journalists, “I am not at all obliged to give you any answer here. Whatever I have to say or whatever answer I have to give regarding my politics, I will give it directly among the people of my parliamentary constituency Jadavpur.”

Having said this, Sayoni Ghosh clearly refused to answer any further questions. She moved quickly and sat in her car already parked at the airport and immediately left from there. Her tough stance shown at the airport has made it clear among political pundits that she has now completely distanced herself from the leadership of Mamata Banerjee and has moved forward on the path of rebellion.

‘Kaba Girl’ and her journey from controversial post to Parliament

Sayoni Ghosh, a famous actress turned politician, has always been in the news for her sharp attitude, wit and controversial statements. After entering politics, Mamata Banerjee had expressed great confidence in him and appointed him the president of TMC’s youth wing. After this, in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Mamata fielded him from a VIP seat like Jadavpur, from where she reached the threshold of Parliament by registering a resounding victory.

However, Sayoni Ghosh has a very old and deep connection with controversies. In 2015, a highly controversial graphic post was shared on his Twitter (now X) account, in which a cat was shown wearing a condom on the sacred Shivalinga. However, after a huge controversy, Sayoni had clearly claimed that her account was hacked, but after this incident, she continued to be the target of right-wing thinkers. Apart from this, due to some of her old statements and tours, a certain section of the social media has often been trolling her by calling her ‘Kaba Girl’.

Tathagata Roy’s counterattack which is still not giving up on Sayoni

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Governor of Meghalaya and Tripura Tathagata Roy had opened a front against Sayoni Ghosh on the controversial post of Shivlinga. Roy had filed a written complaint against Sayoni at Ravindra Sarovar Police Station in Kolkata.

Then in the year 2021, Tathagata Roy had made a strong hit back and said, “Sayoni Ghosh has made a cruel and vulgar mockery of the faith of crores of Hindus. By posting such dirty and objectionable pictures on the internet media, she has committed a serious cognizable offense under Section 295A of the Act. In order to show herself as so-called secular, she is openly insulting our Sanatani culture.”

This ideological dispute between Tathagata Roy and Sayoni Ghosh became very heated during the Bengal Assembly elections. Today, when Sayoni herself is raising the trumpet of rebellion against her own party TMC, all her old controversies and statements have once again become viral on social media and are standing in front of her.

The departure of a firebrand and outspoken woman leader like Sayoni Ghosh from Mamata Banerjee clearly proves how deep the roots of internal discontent have gone within TMC. Sayoni, who launched a scathing attack on the opposition inside the Parliament with the phrase ‘Chaddi’, is now sitting in Delhi and making a big political strategy against her own sister. After this general meeting of the rebel group to be held this evening, it will become completely clear whether Sayoni Ghosh is also ready to put her MP at stake and merge her entire strength in a new political party.
