United States President Donald Trump has been assigned a special role during the trophy presentation ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

SUPERBALL.ID – FIFA has reportedly raised no objections to U.S. President Donald Trump breaking strict ceremonial protocols during the 2026 World Cup.

The 23rd edition of the tournament has officially kicked off, with all three host nations – the United States, Mexico, and Canada – earning positive results in their opening matches, adding excitement to the global event.

Mexico began their campaign with a 2-0 victory over South Africa, while Canada settled for a 1-1 draw against Bosnia.

The United States enjoyed a commanding 4-1 win against Paraguay on June 13.

Meanwhile, five-time champions Brazil were held to a 1-1 draw by 2022 semi-finalists Morocco.

Germany cruised past debutants Curaçao with a 7-1 scoreline, despite the newcomers briefly equalising at 1-1.

France, the champions of 1998 and 2018, are set to face Senegal in the early hours of Wednesday (June 17, 2026) IST, before defending champions Argentina launch their campaign against Algeria later that morning.

Portugal and England will play their first matches of the 2026 World Cup in the early hours of Thursday (June 18, 2026) IST.

In total, 104 matches will be held across three countries and 16 cities, culminating in the grand final on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New York/New Jersey.

Several top celebrities are expected to attend the final, and Trump is reported to have been given a special role during the trophy presentation ceremony.

According to talkSPORT, the 80-year-old has informed FIFA of his wish to personally hand the trophy to the champions.

The organisation reportedly has no objection, even though the move technically breaches traditional presentation protocol.

Typically, during the trophy ceremony, a member of the winning team—usually the captain—lifts the trophy from its pedestal and carries it to the podium where teammates await.

However, sources close to FIFA stated that it will be up to Trump whether he stands beside the winners, similar to his presence during the FIFA Club World Cup final last summer.

What do FIFA’s rules say about the trophy presentation?

Although reports suggest Trump’s involvement would breach protocol, FIFA’s official regulations do not explicitly prohibit it.

The rules simply state: “The winners of the FIFA World Cup 2026 will receive the trophy, which remains the property of FIFA.”

“The winning team will receive the trophy during an on-field ceremony immediately following the final whistle.”

“They shall return it to FIFA in the dressing room immediately after the final match ceremony and before leaving the stadium.”

In addition to receiving the trophy, the winners will also be awarded a commemorative plaque as a token of their participation.

All 48 member associations taking part in the tournament will receive one plaque each.

Diplomas will be presented to the teams finishing in first, second, and third place in the competition.
