Arne Slot has spoken publicly for the first time following his sudden dismissal from Liverpool, offering a heartfelt message to supporters moments after the club confirmed his departure. The Dutch manager’s two-year stint at Anfield has come to an end after a disappointing second campaign in which the Reds failed to claim any silverware.

Liverpool part ways with Dutch coach

The Merseyside club officially announced that Slot had been relieved of his duties after two years in charge. In a detailed joint statement with the club’s ownership group, Liverpool described the decision as extremely difficult. While Slot led the Reds to the Premier League title in his debut season, a sharp decline in form during the following campaign saw them finish fifth and end the season without a trophy.

Club issues extended statement

In their joint message, the club and owners paid tribute to Slot’s influence despite his exit: “The contribution Arne has made to Liverpool FC during his tenure has been significant, meaningful and – most importantly to both supporters and ourselves – successful.”

They added: “Our appreciation for everything he achieved could not be greater, particularly as it was built upon a tremendous work ethic, diligence and expertise that reinforced our belief that he is a leader in his profession.”

“The compassion and humanity he displayed throughout his time here spoke volumes about him as a person. We can only wish Arne the very best in the next stage of his managerial journey, confident that he will continue to succeed. His legacy at Liverpool remains intact and will grow in importance in the years ahead.”

“Nonetheless, our decision is based on the belief that the team’s current trajectory calls for a new direction. This should not be seen as a reflection of Arne’s abilities or as a lack of respect for his work. It is simply a recognition of the need for a different approach.”

“Arne departs with our gratitude, a Premier League title to his name, and the assurance that he and his family will always be welcome at Anfield.”

Slot’s farewell message

Despite the abrupt nature of his dismissal, Slot swiftly expressed his appreciation to the Liverpool faithful. Speaking through journalist Fabrizio Romano shortly after the announcement, he reflected on his time at the club: “It has been an incredible journey with Liverpool. I am deeply thankful that we were able to win the league last season.”

Liverpool begin search for new manager

The Anfield hierarchy now face the challenge of appointing a new head coach as they aim to steer the team back on course before the next season begins. Former Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola has already emerged as the leading candidate for the role following his impressive sixth-place finish with the Cherries. The next Liverpool manager will be tasked with rejuvenating the squad, restoring confidence, and preparing for a demanding return to Champions League competition.
