Born on January 14, 1977 in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, Narayan Karthikeyan was fascinated by fast cars since childhood. In the year 2005, Karthikeyan made his debut in Formula-1 from the ‘Jordan Grand Prix’ team. This made him the first Indian driver to participate in a Formula-1 race. In the same year, he finished fourth in the American Grand Prix. Although the race proved controversial due to several teams boycotting the competition, he became the first Indian driver to score points in F1 history.
Karthikeyan later represented India in A1 Grand Prix, Super League Formula and many other international competitions. He returned to F1 again in 2011 and 2012 with the HRT team. Despite limited resources and poor infrastructure for motorsport in India, they made their mark globally.
