Arsenal’s current stance regarding a potential move for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has now become clear.

Rashford’s future remains uncertain after Barcelona decided not to retain him despite his impressive loan stint during the 2025/26 campaign.

The English attacker registered 14 goals and an equal number of assists across all competitions, playing a crucial role in helping the Blaugrana secure another La Liga title. Although Barcelona had the option to sign him permanently for just £26 million, they chose not to exercise that clause.

Reports suggest that Hansi Flick’s team is still open to negotiating a reduced transfer fee or another season-long loan, but Manchester United are currently unwilling to discuss such possibilities. Over the weekend, rumours surfaced indicating that Michael Carrick would be open to continuing his work with Rashford at Old Trafford.

These rumours gained traction after suggestions emerged that Rashford himself would prefer to remain at Manchester United rather than switch to another Premier League side.

It is believed that the 26-year-old forward has a £40 million release clause that can be activated by any club except Manchester City and Liverpool, United’s fiercest rivals.

Fresh off their Premier League triumph, Arsenal have been linked with an interest in the England international. Some reports have also claimed that Manchester United are open to offering Rashford to the Gunners as part of their desire for a clean break this summer.

Arsenal are expected to have a busy transfer window as they aim to strengthen their squad to defend their Premier League title. Reinforcements in attack are likely to be a priority, especially with Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard both reportedly considering exits. In such a scenario, Rashford could potentially emerge as an option.

However, according to The Mirror, Arsenal are not currently prioritising a deal for the Carrington academy graduate.

The report further notes that Rashford is expected to return to Manchester United after the World Cup for decisive talks with club officials regarding his future.

Rashford is understood to believe that moving on from Old Trafford would be the best step for his career.

Nevertheless, Arsenal do not appear to be his likely destination, as the North London club have cooled their interest in bringing him into their setup.

A strong showing from Rashford at the World Cup could potentially boost Manchester United’s chances of securing a lucrative summer sale.
