Either Uzbekistan or Colombia have the opportunity to rise to the top of Group K with a win in today’s World Cup 2026 fixture.

Following Portugal’s unexpected draw against DR Congo — despite entering the match as favourites — the group has been thrown wide open, adding even more importance to the upcoming Uzbekistan vs Colombia clash at Mexico City Stadium.

English referee Anthony Taylor will take charge of this crucial World Cup encounter in Group K. Taylor is a well-known figure among Premier League followers, having officiated 432 matches in England’s top division.

Taylor’s international résumé is equally impressive. He has overseen 42 matches in the UEFA Champions League and is officiating at his second FIFA World Cup, having previously managed two matches during the 2022 tournament in Qatar.

Across a total of 550 professional matches, Taylor has issued 1,997 yellow cards, averaging 3.63 per game according to statistics from WhoScored. While this is slightly above the global average, he is not generally considered an overly strict referee.

His red card record further supports that reputation, as he has shown only 87 red cards throughout his career — an average of 0.16 per game, which is lower than most referees at this level.

Assisting Taylor on the sidelines for the Uzbekistan vs Colombia match will be Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn, both from the Premier League officiating team. This makes it an all-English refereeing crew for the fixture.

In addition, Costa Rican officials Juan Gabriel Calderón and Juan Carlos Mora will serve as the fourth official and reserve assistant referee, respectively.

The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) team will be led by Croatia’s Ivan Bebek, with Premier League referee Jared Gillett from Australia acting as his assistant in the VAR control room.

This experienced lineup ensures that the Group K match between Uzbekistan and Colombia will be managed by some of the most seasoned officials in world football.
