Karnataka Principal Suicide Case: Jayappa (54), principal of Kokkanur Government School in Davangere district of Karnataka, committed suicide. In connection with his suicide, an FIR has been registered against 10 people including 5 teachers on charges of caste abuse and mental harassment. Jayappa's wife Anjinamma had lodged a complaint at the police station, in which she had cited harassment as the reason for her husband's death.
An FIR has been registered against 10 people including five teachers, four kitchen staff (CRP and BRP) in the case of Jayappa (54), Principal of Kokkanoor Government School, Harihar Taluk of Malebennur police station area of the district, committing suicide by consuming poison. Jayappa's wife Anjanamma had filed a complaint at the Malebennur police station against 10 people, including co-teachers Srikantachari, Venkatesh, Ranjani, Chetna, Mahantesh Gowli and kitchen assistants Suma, Chennamma, Roopa and Vijayamma, alleging mental torture, harassment and caste abuse.
Understanding the seriousness of the matter, the police have registered an FIR against all the people. It is alleged that for the last ten months, Anjanamma's husband Jayappa, who worked in Kokkanur School, was being harassed daily. Since he belonged to a Scheduled Caste, he used to abuse them because of their caste. Her husband Jayappa had told her this dozens of times. In her complaint, Anjinamma had written that her husband had committed suicide due to the mental harassment inflicted by him.
Let us tell you that there were allegations of internal discord among the teachers in Kokkanur Government School. Following the dispute between fellow teachers, kitchen assistants and the principal, a mediation meeting was held in the presence of the SDMC and village elders. During the meeting, Principal Jayappa consumed poison while going to the school toilet. He was immediately admitted to the district hospital and treated. However, he died during treatment.
