Spanish international winger Víctor Muñoz has officially joined Liverpool after the Premier League club triggered his £34.6 million release clause from Osasuna.
The 22-year-old, who is currently in the United States with Spain’s World Cup squad, was given permission to undergo a medical examination and sign a six-year contract with the Reds on Thursday, keeping him at Anfield until 2032.
Muñoz made four substitute appearances for Real Madrid during the 2024/25 season before completing a £4.3 million move to Osasuna. Real Madrid retained a 50% sell-on clause, meaning half of Liverpool’s payment for the transfer will go to Los Blancos.
His debut campaign as a regular starter in La Liga drew widespread attention from Europe’s top clubs after he registered six goals and two assists across 34 appearances. Both Barcelona and Real Madrid monitored his progress, while Newcastle United came close to a deal before Liverpool stepped in to secure his services.
Muñoz’s international career began in March when he made his Spain debut against Serbia, scoring as a substitute while playing as a centre forward. His pace and direct attacking style earned him a place in the national team’s World Cup squad despite ending the club season with an injury.
After suffering a muscle injury in May, Muñoz missed four of Osasuna’s final five league fixtures. He was fit enough to be named on the bench for Spain’s World Cup opener against Cape Verde, providing cover for Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal.
Born in Catalonia, Muñoz came through Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy until 2017, when he joined CF Damm, a club well known for its youth development setup. He later moved to Madrid in 2021, progressing rapidly through the ranks before signing for Osasuna last summer.
Although Osasuna endured a poor second half of the 2024/25 season—losing their final five matches and narrowly avoiding relegation on head-to-head results—Muñoz remained one of their standout performers. He finished the campaign with six goals and two assists in 34 La Liga appearances, ranking among the top five percent of players in successful dribbles and touches inside the opposition box.
Capable of operating across the front line, Muñoz is valued for his blistering speed, strength, and dribbling ability—qualities that Liverpool believe will add dynamism to their attack.
Following the departure of club legend Mohamed Salah, Muñoz will not be expected to replicate the Egyptian’s output immediately. Instead, his arrival is seen as a key step in manager Andoni Iraola’s plan to restore Liverpool’s trademark direct, high-intensity style of football.
