IAF Airmen Group Y Medical Assistant 2026: There is great news for young individuals from the science stream who dream of a career in the defense sector. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has released a recruitment notification for the Airman Group 'Y' (Non-Technical) Medical Assistant trade, Intake 02/2027. Notably, this recruitment is not under the 'Agniveer' scheme but is a regular Airman recruitment, offering a 20-year service tenure and long-term benefits.

This recruitment drive is open to male Indian citizens and Gorkha citizens of Nepal. Following training, selected candidates will receive an attractive salary, allowances, medical facilities, accommodation, and various other benefits.

Who can apply?: Strict eligibility criteria
To participate in this recruitment, specific age groups and marital status requirements have been set based on educational qualifications:

Candidates who have passed 10+2 (Intermediate): Only unmarried male candidates are eligible. They must have been born between 01 July 2006 and 01 July 2010 (both dates inclusive). The maximum age limit at the time of enrollment is 21 years.

Candidates with Pharmacy (Diploma/Degree):
Unmarried candidates: Must have been born between 01 July 2003 and 01 July 2008.

Married candidates: Must have been born between 01 July 2003 and 01 July 2006.
The maximum age limit for them at the time of enrollment must not exceed 24 years.

For 10+2 candidates
Candidates must be unmarried, and their date of birth must fall between 1 July 2006 and 1 July 2010 (both dates inclusive). The maximum age limit at the time of enrollment is set at 21 years.

For Pharmacy Diploma/Degree holders
Unmarried candidates must have a date of birth between 1 July 2003 and 1 July 2008. Married candidates must have a date of birth between 1 July 2003 and 1 July 2006. The maximum age limit for these candidates at the time of enrollment is 24 years.

**Educational Qualifications**
**Standard Entry:** Candidates must have passed 10+2 or Intermediate from a recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English, securing a minimum of 50% aggregate marks. Additionally, a minimum of 50% marks in English is mandatory.

**Vocational Entry:** Candidates must have passed a two-year vocational course (with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English) securing 50% aggregate marks and a minimum of 50% marks in English.

**Pharmacy Entry:** In addition to meeting the 10+2 (PCB) criteria, candidates must possess a Diploma in Pharmacy, B.Pharm, or B.Sc. with a minimum of 50% marks. Valid registration with the State Pharmacy Council or the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) is mandatory.

**Physical and Medical Standards**
Candidates must be physically and mentally fit in accordance with Air Force standards:

**Minimum Height:** 152 cm
**Chest:** Minimum circumference of 77 cm with a minimum expansion of 5 cm.
**Vision:** Visual acuity of 6/36 in each eye, correctable to 6/6 with glasses. Refractive error must not exceed +3.50D. Candidates who have undergone LASIK/PRK surgery are not eligible.
**Hearing and Teeth:** Ability to hear a normal whisper from a distance of 6 meters; healthy gums and a minimum of 14 dental points.
**Tattoos:** Permanent body tattoos are not permitted (exceptions apply for the inner aspect of the forearm, the back of the hand, or specific tribal traditions).

Salary, Training, and Facilities
Selected candidates will undergo Joint Basic Phase Training (JBPT) followed by specialized training related to the medical trade. The training will cover subjects such as nursing, first aid, and medical store management.

A monthly stipend of ₹14,600 will be provided during the training period. Upon completion of training, the minimum gross monthly salary will start at ₹26,900, in addition to Dearness Allowance and other allowances.

The initial service tenure will be 20 years, which may be extended up to the age of 57 based on requirements.

Numerous Additional Benefits
Candidates selected for the Indian Air Force will be provided with facilities such as rations, uniforms, medical care, accommodation, CSD facilities, 60 days of annual leave, and 30 days of casual leave.

Additionally, a group insurance cover of ₹62.5 lakh will be provided, with a monthly premium set at ₹3,200.

Selection Process

Phase-1: Online Examination
The online examination will be of the objective type. Except for the English section, the question paper will be available in both Hindi and English. The duration of the exam will be 45 minutes. Questions will be asked from English and Reasoning & General Awareness (RAGA).

Under the marking scheme, 1 mark will be awarded for a correct answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted for an incorrect answer, and no marks will be awarded for unanswered questions.

Phase-2: Physical Fitness and Adaptability Test
Candidates who qualify in the online examination will be called to the Airmen Selection Centre (ASC). Under PFT-I, candidates must complete a 1.6-kilometer run. Candidates up to 21 years of age must complete this run in 7 minutes, while those over 21 or pharmacy candidates must complete it in 7 minutes and 30 seconds. In PFT-II, candidates must complete 10 push-ups, 10 sit-ups, and 20 squats within one minute. Subsequently, Adaptability Tests I and II will be conducted to evaluate the candidate's suitability for military life and their ability to function under various conditions.

Phase 3: Medical Examination
The final stage involves a comprehensive medical examination. This will include various tests such as a blood hemogram, urine RE/ME, blood sugar, cholesterol, Liver Function Test (LFT), Kidney Function Test (RFT), chest X-ray, and ECG.
