Devajit Saikia, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), emphasized that preparations for India's journey to the 2027 ODI World Cup have commenced. The board is concentrating on consistent training, team development, and strategic planning, supported by a busy ODI schedule.

The 2027 ICC Men's ODI World Cup is tentatively slated to take place from October 4 to November 21 in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. These dates were established during an ICC board meeting held in Ahmedabad in May, with final confirmation anticipated at the ICC Annual General Meeting in Edinburgh in July.

On Sunday, the BCCI revealed a 15-member team for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England, which is set to begin on July 16. Saikia stated, "BCCI is outlining a pathway leading up to the 2027 ODI World Cup in October-November, and we have a robust schedule of matches leading up to it. The team for the three ODIs in England, scheduled from July 14 to 19, has been announced. The selectors, along with the support staff and head coach, are fully engaged in this process."

The 2027 ODI World Cup will be notable as the first men's tournament held in Africa since 2003. South Africa has previously hosted the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2009 Champions Trophy, and the 2023 Women's T20 World Cup. Additionally, Zimbabwe and Namibia recently co-hosted the Under-19 Men's World Cup.

This tournament will revert to a 14-team format, differing from the last two editions that featured only 10 teams. The teams will be split into two groups of seven, with the top three from each group moving on to the Super Six stage. South Africa and Zimbabwe, being Full Members, will automatically qualify, while Namibia will need to navigate the qualification process.
