Nicolas Jackson is set to be handed a fresh opportunity to impress new Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso following his return from a loan stint at Bayern Munich. The Senegalese striker continues to be highly rated at Stamford Bridge, even as interest from multiple clubs persists.

Chelsea to evaluate Jackson under Alonso

The Blues are preparing to reintegrate Jackson into their first-team setup after his season-long spell in Germany. The plan is for Alonso to personally assess the forward before any decision is made regarding his future. Jackson, who featured for Bayern during the 2025-26 season, is now returning as Chelsea begin a new chapter under Alonso’s leadership.

According to reports from the Daily Mail, the 24-year-old remains well regarded within the club despite his temporary move away. Chelsea have already received enquiries from both Premier League and overseas clubs. While a transfer could be considered if a substantial bid arrives, the current strategy is to allow Jackson to prove his worth to Alonso once the Spaniard officially assumes charge on July 1.

Chelsea to reassess striker’s future

Jackson’s loan move to Bayern was reportedly influenced by a loss of confidence from former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca. With Maresca’s departure, the scenario has shifted considerably. The club’s hierarchy is said to be open-minded about Jackson’s future. While they want Alonso to evaluate him firsthand, they are also prepared to explore transfer opportunities should suitable offers come in during the summer window.

Competition could determine Jackson’s role

Jackson will face stiff competition for a place in Chelsea’s attacking line. Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, and Emmanuel Emegha are all part of the club’s current forward options, leading to a congested battle for starting spots ahead of the new season.

The lack of European football next term could make squad management even more challenging. With fewer fixtures on the calendar, Alonso may have to trim his squad to ensure players receive adequate playing time.

However, Jackson’s adaptability could work in his favour. Unlike some of Chelsea’s other forwards, he can also play effectively in wider attacking roles, offering Alonso greater tactical flexibility.

World Cup commitments before Chelsea pre-season

Before rejoining Chelsea, Jackson’s focus will be on representing Senegal at the World Cup, which kicks off on June 11. Consequently, Alonso will initially observe the striker’s performances from a distance before working with him directly during pre-season preparations. Upon returning to London, Jackson will have the chance to stake his claim for inclusion in Chelsea’s plans for the 2026-27 campaign. His pre-season form could be pivotal in determining whether he remains part of the squad or is made available for transfer.
