Could Michael Olise push for a role as Bayern Munich’s No. 10?

One of the most interesting storylines at Bayern Munich this season could be where Michael Olise ultimately fits into Vincent Kompany’s plans. While the France international has excelled on the wing and quickly established himself as one of Bayern Munich’s most dangerous attacking players, his recent comments suggest he may prefer a different position.

When asked which role suits him best, Olise gave a clear answer.

“I think it’s at number 10. It’s a slightly freer role. I grew up playing in the number 10 position. So, for me, it’s a bit more natural. Well, maybe not right now, because I’m playing on the wing today, but I think it’s what feels most natural to me,” Olise said.

The challenge for Olise is that Bayern Munich already has several players capable of filling that position behind the striker. Jamal Musiala remains the club’s leading attacking midfielder and, when fit, is generally considered the first-choice option as a No. 10. Serge Gnabry has also shown throughout his career that he can play centrally when required, giving Kompany another experienced option.

There is also the transfer market to consider. Bayern Munich have been linked with PSV Eindhoven star Ismael Saibari, who is most comfortable in an advanced central attacking role. If Saibari were to join the club, competition for playing time in midfield would become even stronger.

Of course, having multiple talented attacking players is a problem most clubs would happily accept. Olise has already shown he can perform at an elite level from the wing, and Bayern Munich’s fluid attacking system often allows players to move into central positions regardless of where they start.

Still, Olise’s comments offer an interesting insight into how he views his own game. If he truly believes the No. 10 role allows him to showcase his best qualities, Bayern Munich may eventually face some intriguing decisions regarding how to use one of their brightest talents.
