Lucas Bergvall has reportedly informed Tottenham Hotspur of his wish to depart the club during the upcoming summer transfer window in pursuit of a new challenge.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who is currently representing Sweden at the World Cup, faces growing uncertainty over his future with the North London side.

As per The Athletic, Tottenham have now been made aware of Bergvall’s decision to seek a move away, despite his existing contract running through to 2031.

The Swedish international joined Spurs from Djurgarden in 2024 and swiftly became recognised as one of the club’s most promising young players.

During his debut campaign, Bergvall made a strong impression under Ange Postecoglou, playing a key role in Tottenham’s successful season.

He was honoured as Tottenham’s Player of the Year and played an instrumental part in the club’s Europa League triumph in 2025, ending their long wait for a major trophy.

However, his influence in the first team has since waned.

Frequent managerial changes have had a significant impact on his involvement, with consecutive coaches either using him less or shifting him from his favoured central midfield role.

Thomas Frank often positioned Bergvall in wider roles, while Igor Tudor granted him very limited playing time during his short tenure at the helm.

The arrival of Roberto De Zerbi has seemingly added further complexity to his situation.

Though Bergvall was given an early start following De Zerbi’s appointment, he found it difficult to secure a consistent starting position as the season drew to a close.

The midfielder is known to prefer playing as a number eight, a position that does not naturally align with the tactical structure favoured by De Zerbi.

Tottenham’s ongoing transfer plans have further heightened uncertainty regarding Bergvall’s place in the squad.

The club have been linked with other midfield targets, including Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, indicating that competition for midfield spots could intensify before the new campaign begins.
