Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna's film Cocktail 2 is getting mixed response. He also once feeds curried rice to his girlfriend's friend Ellie i.e. Kriti Sanon.
Cocktail 2 director Homi Adajania who also directed 2012's Cocktail. But this time the story has been written together by Tarun Jain and Luv Ranjan. Last time it was written by Imtiaz Ali. Luv Ranjan has also produced it in collaboration with Maddock Films. The film broadly tells that someone you spend time with for a long time, it is not necessary that you love him. Love is not dependent on time or person. This can happen to anyone at any time. This can happen even after a short acquaintance and it may not happen even after living together for a long time. Now just think how new or old is this philosophy of the story. This trend can be seen not only occasionally but many times in the films of Yash Raj Banners.
However, the story of the film is such that Kunal i.e. Shahid Kapoor and Dia i.e. Rashmika Mandanna have been in a live-in relationship for a long time. They are friends and love each other. But not formally married. In such a situation, Diya keeps testing her again and again whether Kunal really loves her or not, whether he will marry her or not. If it does then when?
Meanwhile, when her friend Ellie i.e. Kriti Sanon meets her, she asks her to pretend to get closer to Kunal so that she can know whether Kunal is really serious and committed towards her or not. Song from the earlier film- You are my friend, you are my friend... Has been inserted again. Kriti Sanon is the life of this film. Has attracted more attention than Shahid.

The backdrop and costumes of the film have been kept modern and full of fun. The location is romantic and adventurous too. Soothing the vision of the audience. The film has humor along with romance and a lot of glamor too. But the crude definition of love and relationships makes the film cumbersome.
This is where the film deviates from its aim of entertainment. Neither is it able to serve complete fun nor does it define love, friendship, marriage and relationships properly. Sometimes fun, sometimes emotion and sometimes a message of social responsibility – the film has a cocktail of these three flavours. Perhaps the film wants to say that the life of today's youth is also a cocktail of these three flavours. Due to adulteration in the cocktail, the arrow could not hit the right target.
Apart from this, the film also tells that marriage after love is done to show off social responsibility. And Kunal does not want to believe in this belief. He doesn't want to do this kind of drama. He is willing to live together for a long time without marriage. This is his philosophy. Living together should not be a habit but there should be a need for each other. Many youth in India today may think like this but very few are able to do so. The film is not able to relate even on this point.
The day I went to watch the film, there were hardly 20-25 spectators in the theatre. Yes, all those viewers were definitely young, who were attracted by the promotion of the spiritual sequel of Cocktail. Let us tell you that Cocktail was released in the year 2012 which was a box office superhit of its time. Deepika Padukone, Diana Penty and Saif Ali Khan played roles in it. His songs were also popular. But the atmosphere of Cocktail 2 shows that the audience is not very enthusiastic about this film.
Well, it is true that the mood of Cocktail 2 is a little different among the types of violence-oriented films coming these days. The film provides some relief through romance, comedy, humor, glamor and adventurous locations. The problem lay in its screenplay writing. Had it been written a little better, the film could have lived up to expectations.
