Tezzbuzz Desk- After NEET UG re-exam, messaging app Telegram is back on Google Play Store. Due to exam controversies and allegations of paper leak, the government had temporarily banned this app, which has now been removed.

According to sources, on the request of the National Testing Agency (NTA), the Central Government had ordered to temporarily block Telegram in India from June 16, 2026 to June 22, 2026. This restriction has been lifted after the successful completion of NEET re-exam.

Strict action was taken after NEET controversy

Before the NEET 2026 exam, there were some reports alleging leakage of question paper and content. After this the government took action on Telegram as a precautionary measure.

According to a report, the government believed that the platform did not have adequate controls in place to prevent activities to fake papers, misleading information and fraud, which could have affected the examination process.

For this reason, Telegram and some web services to it were temporarily blocked.

Message edit feature will remain closed till June 30

Although Telegram has returned to Google Play Store, one of its important features will still be limited.

As per government instructions, Telegram’s message editing feature will remain closed till June 30, 2026. This means that users will be able to use the app, but the messages sent during this period will not be able to be edited.

Telegram CEO’s response

Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov reacted to the Indian government’s move to temporarily suspend the decision. He had raised questions on the platform being banned for a limited time.

What was the whole matter?

According to reports, a meeting was held between the government and Telegram representatives on June 3, in which exam- concerns were discussed. After this, the government took action and temporarily blocked the app.

Telegram has returned after the successful conduct of NEET re-exam, but a temporary ban on some features is still in place. The situation is expected to become normal in the coming days.
