The World Cup Group C stage will reach its conclusion on Wednesday evening, with both final fixtures being played simultaneously.

Brazil currently lead the group after two matches and are set to face Scotland in Miami. Meanwhile, in Atlanta, Morocco will take on Haiti in a crucial encounter.

While Haiti have already been eliminated from the tournament, the top spot in the group remains up for grabs, making this fixture particularly significant for Morocco.

The referee appointed for the Morocco vs Haiti match is Dutch official Danny Makkelie. The experienced referee is officiating in his second World Cup, having also taken charge during the 2022 edition in Qatar.

The 43-year-old, who hails from Willemstad, officiated two major fixtures at the 2022 tournament — the 1-1 group stage draw between Spain and Germany, and Argentina’s 2-0 victory over Poland.

Makkelie also boasts considerable experience in European competitions, having served as a referee in the last two European Championships and officiating the 2020 Europa League final.

This will be his second appearance at the current tournament. His first match saw him oversee the United States’ 4-1 win against Paraguay, during which he issued six yellow cards.

Assisting Makkelie on the touchlines will be fellow Dutch officials Hessel Steegstra and Jan de Vries. Portugal’s Joao Pinhiero has been appointed as the fourth official, while Bruno Jesus will act as the reserve assistant referee.

For Morocco, led by the Atlas Lions, the objective is clear — they must either outperform Brazil’s result or surpass them on goal difference to secure the top spot in Group C. Haiti, on the other hand, approach this game with pride at stake after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Scotland in their opening fixture and a subsequent loss to Brazil.
