Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has reportedly made a major decision regarding his future, which is set to thrill the club’s supporters. The Portuguese playmaker is coming off an outstanding campaign for the Red Devils, where he played a pivotal role in guiding them to a third-place finish in the Premier League.

Fernandes etched his name in the record books by registering 21 assists in a single Premier League season — the highest ever in the competition's history. His phenomenal performances earned him both the FWA Footballer of the Year and Premier League Player of the Season honours, along with a record-breaking fifth Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award.

Fernandes has now joined Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs as only the third player in Manchester United’s history to have achieved over 100 goals and 100 assists for the club. The 31-year-old has tallied 107 goals and 108 assists from 327 appearances for the English giants so far.

However, the midfielder is entering the final year of his current contract this summer, though United hold an option to extend it for another year. This situation has sparked speculation about his long-term future, particularly given his immense influence since arriving at Old Trafford.

Last summer, Fernandes was heavily linked with a move away amid strong interest from clubs in the Middle East, but he ultimately stayed put. Reports later suggested that then-manager Ruben Amorim played a crucial role in persuading the United skipper to reject lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia.

When Amorim departed mid-season, Fernandes reached new heights under Michael Carrick, who restored him to his preferred No. 10 position — a tactical shift that paid off handsomely. Yet, with the Portuguese maestro still to sign a new contract at the Theatre of Dreams, fans remain anxious about his future.

United are planning substantial investment in their squad this summer, fuelling optimism ahead of the next campaign. The club has reportedly secured the signing of Atalanta midfielder Ederson, with further reinforcements expected to follow.

Despite that, Fernandes’ future continues to dominate discussions. Previous reports indicated that Manchester United are eager to secure his services with a new deal, and now, an encouraging update has emerged for the club’s supporters.

According to talkSPORT, Fernandes has informed his teammates of his decision to continue at Old Trafford. The report states: “Bruno Fernandes is set to stay at Manchester United, talkSPORT understands.”

It further adds: “Although Fernandes didn’t hold any formal discussions with the club regarding his future before the World Cup, he has already told teammates and those close to him that he intends to remain.”

The report also mentions that clubs from the Middle East had hoped to lure the Portuguese star after the World Cup, but their efforts have fallen short. It continues: “Saudi dealmakers had hoped Fernandes might be open to leaving Manchester United after the World Cup, but talkSPORT understands the Portugal international plans to stay for at least one more year.”

Fernandes has carried his stellar form into the 2026 FIFA World Cup, contributing an assist in Portugal’s 5-0 triumph over Uzbekistan on Tuesday, 23 June.

Manchester United aim to re-establish themselves among Europe’s elite next season, and Fernandes will undoubtedly be central to that ambition. With the midfielder showing willingness to continue, INEOS must move swiftly to finalise his new deal and avoid any future uncertainty.
