Jurgen Klopp has advised England supporters to remain patient and optimistic after their team was held to a goalless draw by Ghana in the World Cup group stage.
The former Liverpool manager stressed that the Three Lions are under the leadership of an 'exceptional' coach in Thomas Tuchel and that such results are a normal part of any major tournament journey. Klopp commented that even strong teams experience setbacks, and one draw should not diminish England’s chances of going far in the competition.
England began their World Cup campaign with an exciting 4-2 win over Croatia in their opening fixture, a result that showcased their attacking prowess. A victory against Ghana would have confirmed their place at the top of Group L, but the draw means they remain in first place only on goal difference as they prepare to face Panama in their final group game on Saturday.
Offering his full backing to Tuchel, Klopp said, “Thomas Tuchel is an outstanding coach. Outstanding coaches sometimes have a draw. That’s crazy, huh? Yeah, it’s crazy! Sometimes you don’t score, sometimes luck doesn’t go your way, but that doesn’t change my opinion. He’s exceptional.”
Reflecting on England’s performances, Klopp added, “Their first game against Croatia was fantastic – really strong, even if tighter than people expected, but they won it. I didn’t watch last night’s match, but I saw the result, and I know how the British media react. So, stay calm. I don’t think there’s ever been a team in World Cup history that has won every single match. What matters is who wins the last one – that’s the world champion. Before the final, things like this can happen.”
Klopp, who was seen attending England’s clash with Croatia earlier in the tournament, currently serves as the head of global football at the Red Bull group of clubs. When asked whether he plans to return to management soon, Klopp responded humorously, “Yeah, I do it every day actually – to myself in the morning. ‘Get up!’ Those kinds of things.”
