Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha once again delivered an impressive display for Brazil in the group stage of the tournament.
The Brazilian striker entered the competition following an outstanding debut season at Old Trafford.
Cunha began the tournament on the bench during Brazil’s 1-1 draw with Morocco but was soon promoted to the starting lineup. He rewarded manager Carlo Ancelotti’s faith with a first-half brace against Haiti.
In the final group fixture against Scotland, the United forward continued his fine form with another strong performance.
Just before the 60-minute mark, Bruno Guimarães broke through the midfield and played a precise pass to Cunha, who calmly slotted the ball past Scottish goalkeeper Angus Gunn.
That goal marked Cunha’s third of the tournament as Brazil secured a place in the last 32, finishing at the top of Group C ahead of Morocco on goal difference.
Throughout the 75 minutes he spent on the pitch, Cunha remained active, registering five shots on target.
Two of those attempts were saved, including one that was cleared off the line during the first half.
The forward also completed both of his dribble attempts and created one key pass during his time on the field.
His passing accuracy was impressive as well, completing 92% of his passes for the match.
The 27-year-old has continued to draw praise at Manchester United for his relentless defensive contributions, which were again on display for his national side.
Cunha won all three of his ground duels and prevailed in two of his three aerial battles.
He further contributed to Brazil’s clean sheet with one interception and two clearances.
With Brazil advancing, Cunha and his teammates will now await their Round of 32 opponent, with their next fixture scheduled for Monday, 29th June.
