Delhi Health Medicine Purchase Scam: Anti Corruption Branch i.e. ACB has taken major action in the medicine and equipment purchase scam of Rs 100 crore in Delhi Health Department. ACB has arrested former Director General of Health Services (DGHS) of Delhi, Dr. Vatsala Aggarwal. Earlier, Dr. Vijay Kumar Ranga and Neeraj Chopra have already been arrested in the case. Thus, three people have been arrested so far in the Delhi drug procurement scam.

Earlier, ACB had arrested Dr. Vijay Kumar Ranga. Along with this, Neeraj Chopra, posted as Deputy Controller of Accounts in the Health Department (Central Procurement Agency) of Delhi Government, has also been arrested. Now Dr. Vatsala Aggarwal has been arrested.

In fact, this entire scam is to tender manipulation in the purchase of medicines, surgical items and medical equipment, purchasing at higher prices than the market and ignoring the rules. Actually, this entire matter is to alleged irregularities in the purchase of medicines, surgical items and medical equipment. The ACB investigation revealed that financial irregularities and rules were ignored in the procurement worth several hundred crores of rupees through the Central Procurement Agency (CPA) working under the DGHS.

ACB started investigation

According to ACB officials, the investigation into the case began when the Vigilance Department sent a report regarding some suspicious transactions and violation of rules in the procurement process. After this the investigating agency started examining the documents, procurement process and role of the concerned officials. During this period, complete information regarding tender process, technical-financial evaluation, contract allocation, supply, inspection, acceptance and payment to all purchases was sought.

In this matter, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta has said that fair, transparent and timely investigation should be ensured in this matter. He said that the Delhi government works on a policy of ‘zero tolerance’ towards corruption and it is the responsibility of the government to protect every single penny of the hard-earned money of the public. He said that misuse of public funds will not be tolerated.
