Argentina have already secured their place in the Round of 32, where they will face a spirited Cape Verde side.

Argentina and Jordan are set to contest a dead rubber fixture this evening to conclude Group J.

The South American champions are already preparing for their next challenge against Cape Verde in the Round of 32, making tonight’s encounter largely a formality.

World Cup debutants Jordan, having suffered defeats to Algeria and Austria, have nothing but pride to play for as they prepare to bow out of the tournament.

Argentina have, as expected, been spearheaded by the brilliance of Lionel Messi throughout the competition.

The Argentine captain has been in imperious form, netting all five of his nation’s goals so far, including a stunning hat-trick in their opening Group J clash against Algeria.

Given the minimal stakes of this evening’s match, head coach Lionel Scaloni is widely anticipated to make several rotations, giving his key players a breather before the knockout rounds begin.

Even with a reshuffled lineup, Argentina’s second-string side should have little difficulty overcoming Jordan, though the Jordanian players will undoubtedly view this as a rare opportunity to test themselves against world-class opposition.

Scaloni is expected to make as many as five or six changes to his starting eleven, which could potentially dent Messi’s pursuit of the Golden Boot award.

The Inter Miami star currently leads the scoring charts at the 2026 World Cup, and if given a chance to feature against Jordan, he would be eager to extend his tally further.

However, should the 39-year-old be rested, there is a possibility Argentina’s attack may lack sharpness, as no other player from their squad has found the back of the net so far in this tournament.

Jordan are likely to put up a brave fight, throwing everything into this final outing, but the gulf in class between the two teams should ultimately be evident.

Predicted score: Jordan 0-2 Argentina
