UPI Autopay: In today's busy world, many people use UPI Autopay to automate regular payments—such as mobile recharges and electricity bills—directly from their bank accounts on specific dates. However, this can also result in financial loss for some. If money is automatically deducted from an individual's account every month, it can lead to a significant financial hit. Therefore, it is important to know how to disable UPI Autopay when it is no longer needed.

Understanding UPI Autopay

UPI Autopay enables you to authorize a company or service provider to collect payments from your bank account at scheduled times. Once you grant this permission, funds will continue to be automatically debited from your account each month.

How to disable UPI Autopay?

To disable UPI Autopay, you need to follow a few steps:

  • Open your UPI app and navigate to the 'Mandate' section.
  • Select the specific mandate you wish to cancel.
  • Click on the 'Cancel' option.
  • Once the process is complete, Autopay for that service will stop.
  • However, in some cases, you may also need to visit the specific platform to cancel the subscription.

How to check which UPI Autopay services are active?

Most UPI apps feature a dedicated section labeled 'Mandate' or 'Autopay'.
This is where you can view details of all active Autopay arrangements.
You will see information such as the company name, payment date, and the amount being deducted.
This allows you to identify exactly which services are causing monthly deductions from your account.

When should you disable UPI Autopay?

Disabling UPI Autopay is not the right move in every situation. You should disable it if funds are being deducted for a subscription you no longer use; however, do not disable it if the autopay is for an EMI or an insurance premium. If the service is useful to you, the autopay should remain active. Keep in mind that once the money has been deducted from your account, it cannot be recovered, though disabling autopay will prevent future deductions.

Check your mandates periodically.

You should check your mandates regularly; failing to do so over an extended period while funds continue to be automatically deducted from your account could result in financial loss. Therefore, it is advisable to review them occasionally so that you can promptly cancel any active autopay arrangements if necessary.
