Morgan’s timeless retro-style roadsters have always held a special charm, combining 1930s-inspired design with modern mechanicals. At the peak of Morgan’s range sits the Midsummer, a grand tourer crafted in a limited series of just 50 units, each tailored to the precise preferences of its owner. One particular client requested a fixed roof, prompting Morgan to produce its first coupe since 2015 to fulfil nine additional Midsummer orders.
The ultra-exclusive Midsummer Coupe differs from its roadster sibling through distinct proportions, refined to accommodate its glass-intensive fixed roof design. A newly developed aluminium structure ensures the roof enhances overall chassis rigidity, resulting in improved stiffness compared to the open-top version.
The use of aluminium extends to the hand-shaped body panels, each meticulously scanned and measured using modern technology before being completed with traditional hammering techniques that have defined Morgan craftsmanship for generations. True to Morgan tradition, the body frame still incorporates load-bearing ash wood beneath the aluminium skin.
Inside, the showcased “artist’s proof” model features white leather upholstery complemented by extensive teak detailing. Morgan emphasises that customers of the remaining nine units will have complete freedom to select the materials and finishes used in their cars, though the teak elements are expected to remain, potentially replaced or customised with other types of wood as per individual preferences.
In an era dominated by limited-production, carbon-fibre-bodied hypercars, the Midsummer stands apart as a hand-crafted grand tourer exuding classic elegance. Its sophisticated design is likely to appeal to the discerning few fortunate enough to secure one. For those who missed out, American buyers can still opt for the more widely available Plus Four model.
