The Fiat Multipla name might instantly recall the quirky minivan from the late 1990s, but its roots trace back to an earlier era when it was first applied to a people carrier derived from the tiny Fiat 600 city car. While the 600—and more notably, its sibling, the Fiat 500—have long inspired Fiat’s retro-styled hatchbacks, the original Multipla has never received a nostalgic reinterpretation. That changes now, as Fiat unveils a new concept closely linked to the Topolino microcar, aiming to correct that historical oversight.
Appropriately named the Multiplina, the new concept was presented on Wednesday as a design rendering, with a full-fledged reveal expected later this year. Although detailed specifications remain limited, reports from Autocar suggest that the Multiplina will be developed to meet a higher tier of quadricycle standards compared to the Topolino. This advancement is expected to bring a significant improvement over the Topolino’s 46-mile range and will likely deliver a more capable top speed of around 55 mph—an increase of 27 mph over its smaller sibling.
This positioning should enable the Multiplina to bridge the gap between the novelty-focused Topolino and Fiat’s mainstream city cars like the electric 500. In essence, the Multiplina could become a practical choice for urban commuters seeking an efficient and compact mobility solution for city and suburban travel—without stepping up to a full-sized car and the additional costs, complexities, and ownership demands that come with it.

Alongside the Multiplina, Fiat also showcased a new iteration of its Tris three-wheeled delivery vehicle designed for the hospitality sector. This concept, known as the Tris Dolcevita (pictured above), adopts a breezy, beach-inspired aesthetic. While not suited for every purpose, it appears to be an ideal vehicle for transporting guests around vineyards, estates, or open-air resorts, offering a charming and whimsical mode of local transport.
At present, both the Multiplina and Tris Dolcevita remain conceptual projects. However, for enthusiasts eager to experience Fiat’s smallest electric creations sooner, there’s good news: the Fiat Topolino is officially set to make its way to the American market, providing buyers the chance to own one of these delightfully compact vehicles in the near future.
