Nottingham Forest are preparing to appoint Oliver Glasner as their new head coach following the unexpected departure of Vitor Pereira.
Pereira’s exit was officially announced on Wednesday night. The 57-year-old Portuguese manager had only signed an 18-month deal with the Midlands club in February. During his brief tenure, he successfully guided Forest to safety in the Premier League and led them to the semi-finals of the Europa League, where they were eventually eliminated by Aston Villa, who went on to win the competition.
In his farewell message, Pereira said: “Today marks the end of my journey as head coach of Nottingham Forest. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone associated with this remarkable football club.”
He continued: “Although this decision came as a complete surprise to me and without any prior warning, I fully respect the club’s right to make decisions it feels are in its best interests.”
Pereira added: “Naturally, I am disappointed and saddened. I truly believed in the project we were developing together, and I leave with immense pride in what we accomplished over these past months.”
Reflecting on his tenure, he said: “Together, we enjoyed a memorable end to the season. We ensured the club’s Premier League survival, reached the Europa League semi-finals, and created moments that will remain with me forever. Most importantly, I witnessed a group of players grow in confidence, belief, and unity.”
“Watching them develop, fight for each other, and represent this club with passion has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career,” he said.
Pereira also extended his appreciation to his coaching team, players, club staff, and fans. “From my first day, your passion, loyalty, and unwavering support made me feel truly welcome. You stood by us through every challenge and every success, and I will always be thankful for that.”
He concluded: “I leave Nottingham Forest without any bitterness or resentment — only respect, gratitude, and wonderful memories. Football is full of surprises, and though this chapter ends earlier than I expected, I will always look back on my time here with pride and fondness. I wish the players, staff, supporters, and everyone at Nottingham Forest all the very best for the future. This is a special club, and I sincerely hope it continues to grow and achieve great things. Thank you for everything, Vitor Pereira.”
Glasner, who departed Crystal Palace at the end of last season, is now set to take charge at the City Ground. The Austrian coach led the Eagles to the UEFA Conference League title last season, adding to his earlier triumphs in the FA Cup and Community Shield during his tenure in south London.
The 51-year-old has been linked with several top managerial positions across Europe following his impressive spell at Selhurst Park.
