La Liga president Javier Tebas has once again placed Real Madrid at the centre of attention, this time responding to the club’s submission to UEFA regarding refereeing decisions associated with the Negreira case.
During a press conference held in Madrid, Tebas was questioned about the report submitted by Los Blancos and about his recent attendance at Joan Laporta’s inauguration ceremony.
As has been typical in recent years, Tebas did not avoid discussing one of the most controversial issues in Spanish football.
Tebas challenges Real Madrid’s stance
When asked about the dossier Real Madrid sent to UEFA, Tebas admitted that he had not yet reviewed the document but expressed a strong intention to do so soon.
The La Liga president questioned whether the report concentrated solely on decisions that went against Real Madrid or also included officiating errors that affected other teams during the same time frame.
“I haven’t seen it yet, but I’m very eager to read it,” Tebas said. “I want to know which seasons they are complaining about and whether they are also acknowledging mistakes made against all clubs, including Real Madrid itself.
“If any club cannot complain about refereeing errors, it’s Real Madrid,” he added, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
On Florentino Perez and possible inauguration invitations
Tebas was also asked whether he would attend an inauguration event organised by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, as he had recently accepted an invitation from Barcelona president Joan Laporta.
He explained that he frequently receives invitations from Real Madrid but usually declines due to personal reasons.
“In fact, I get invited to the VIP box every weekend, but for personal reasons, I don’t attend because I have family commitments to take care of,” Tebas stated.
The La Liga chief further emphasised that institutional relationships between clubs and governing bodies must always be upheld, regardless of differing opinions or disputes.
“If it were an inauguration, of course I’d attend. I would take the stage and say the same thing I said yesterday,” he continued. “There are times of disagreement and difficult moments when everyone defends their position, but the key is to work with respect for our institutions.”
