Monsoon has gained momentum from North India to East India, due to which rain and strong storms have started in many states. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain, strong winds and thunderstorm in 15 states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar for July 3.
New Delhi: The south-west monsoon is now becoming increasingly active in India and due to its effect, the weather pattern is going to change completely in many parts of the country. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, severe thunderstorm and lightning in more than 15 states of North, East, Central and West India for July 3. According to the Meteorological Department, the wind speed in some areas can reach 80 to 85 kilometers per hour, due to which life is likely to be affected.
According to experts, with the increase in monsoon activity, the scope of rainfall will become wider in the next few days. In many states, the temperature may drop by 2 to 5 degrees Celsius, which is likely to provide relief to people from the scorching heat.
Monsoon gained momentum
According to IMD, the southwest monsoon is rapidly moving towards North India. Apart from this, a low pressure area is likely to form around north-west Bay of Bengal and north Odisha coast, due to which rainfall activities may further intensify over eastern and central India. Meteorologists say that during the next two to three days, the monsoon will strengthen further over Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and other parts of north-west India. Along with this, widespread rainfall is also expected in the western coast, central India and northeastern regions.
Alert issued in which states?
The Meteorological Department has issued warnings of heavy rain and strong winds for many states including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Kerala. There is a danger of lightning along with thunder in some parts of these states. In view of the possibility of landslides in mountainous areas and waterlogging in low-lying areas, the local administration has been instructed to remain alert.
Rain activities are expected to intensify in the national capital Delhi and surrounding areas from the morning of July 3. According to the Meteorological Department, there may be heavy rain in many areas along with strong winds at a speed of 60 to 70 kilometers per hour. The maximum temperature in Delhi is expected to be around 36 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to be 30 degrees Celsius. There is a possibility of drop in temperature and relief from humidity due to rain.
Weather will be active in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar
A forecast of heavy rainfall and strong winds has been issued in western, central and eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh. Winds can blow at a speed of 70 to 75 kilometers per hour in Saharanpur, Meerut, Agra, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Kanpur, Mirzapur and surrounding districts. There is a possibility of thunderstorms along with heavy rain in Bhojpur, Rohtas, Bhagalpur, Purnia, Katihar, Kishanganj, Araria and other districts in Bihar. The Meteorological Department has advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather.
Danger of landslides in hilly states
Due to continuous rains in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir, there is a possibility of landslides, road blockage and rise in the water level of rivers. Heavy rainfall is forecast in many districts of Himachal Pradesh including Kangra, Mandi, Kullu and Kinnaur. At the same time, there is a possibility of heavy rain in Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Nainital, Bageshwar and Haridwar of Uttarakhand. An alert of heavy rainfall and strong winds has also been issued in areas like Udhampur, Ramban, Rajouri, Poonch and Kupwara of Jammu and Kashmir.
Impact in western and central India also
Heavy rains are expected to continue in Maharashtra’s Konkan region including Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Pune, Palghar and Ratnagiri for the next few days. Warning of heavy rain and thunderstorm has been issued in many districts of Rajasthan including Kota, Bundi, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Jhalawar. There is a possibility of heavy rainfall in Bhopal, Ujjain, Rewa, Dewas, Chhindwara and Khandwa of Madhya Pradesh.
According to the Meteorological Department, due to rain, the temperature may drop by 2 to 5 degrees Celsius in many parts of North and Central India. This is expected to provide relief to people from the heat and humidity that has been going on for the last several days.
