Manchester United and Trabzonspor have officially announced that goalkeeper Andre Onana will return to the Turkish side for another season-long loan, while the future of striker Marcus Rashford continues to attract attention at Old Trafford.
United brought in Senne Lammens last summer, making Onana surplus to requirements. The Cameroonian international had struggled with a series of errors during the previous campaign, and his disappointing performance in the League Cup early last season further hurt his chances.
Onana was sent on loan to Trabzonspor for the 2025–26 season, and though that spell was initially for one year, both clubs have now confirmed that he will be back in Turkey for another season.
Manchester United released a statement confirming his departure on loan, saying: “Everyone at United wishes Andre the best of luck for the campaign ahead.”
This confirmation came shortly after journalist Fabrizio Romano had reported details of the deal earlier in the week.
According to Romano, “André Onana to Trabzonspor from Man United, deal signed after agreement reported last week. One-year loan for a fee of up to £1.3 million based on performances, NO buy option or obligation to buy. Onana will be back to #MUFC in one year. Trabzonspor will cover the majority of his wages.”
While United will not receive a significant transfer fee since Onana’s move is only a loan, the fact that they are no longer covering most of his wages provides the club with additional financial flexibility in the transfer market.
That extra room in the budget could be crucial as United pursue several high-profile targets. Recently, they have been linked with Jules Kounde, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Crysencio Summerville — all of whom played in the 2026 World Cup.
Acquiring any of these players would require substantial investment. Kounde’s price tag is estimated around €50 million (£43 million), while Summerville is reportedly valued at £50 million.
However, as journalist Ben Jacobs has noted, any potential move for Summerville could depend on Marcus Rashford’s future at the club. Jacobs wrote: “Exclusive: Manchester United open talks with West Ham over Crysencio Summerville. Direct club-to-club contact. Classified by Manchester United sources as exploratory at this stage, but the Dutch winger is high on #MUFC’s list. Any bid could be contingent on Marcus Rashford being sold.”
Rashford has drawn interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich this summer, though it remains uncertain whether either club can persuade him to leave, especially as he reportedly still hopes for a move to Barcelona.
