London: BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla has given his views on the ongoing controversy regarding the debut of 15-year-old young player Vaibhav Suryavanshi of the Indian cricket team. Vaibhav was expected to play in the first T20 match of the current series against England, but the team management retained the opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson. After this decision, head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shreyas Iyer are being heavily criticized.

Last month, Suryavanshi was also left out of the series against Ireland, on which the fans expressed their displeasure. In this environment, BCCI Vice President has now defended the team management. Rajeev Shukla said, “We also believe that Suryavanshi is a very talented player. He has also proved this in IPL. But, the coach and captain have the right to take the final decision. When they consider the situation best, they will definitely give him a chance.
He also said that it is not right to make unnecessary statements on the team management. Let us tell you that Suryavanshi had made a place in the national team on the basis of his excellent performance in the 2026 IPL season. He scored 776 runs in 16 innings at an incredible strike rate of 237.30. This young player also won the title of 'Player of the Tournament'. Seeing this tremendous form, the selectors immediately included him in the team.
Even after the series defeat against Ireland, when the team management did not include Suryavanshi in the playing eleven, the criticism intensified. Well, BCCI clearly says that Suryavanshi's time will come soon and such decisions should be left to the discretion of the team management.
