How microplastics affect human health: The use of plastic is now not only harming our environment but it has also become a serious and big challenge for our health.
A new international report claims that microplastics are present in almost every part of our lives. Microplastics and humans come into contact with each other even before birth.
According to the report, microplastics are so microscopic that we cannot even see them with the naked eye. Therefore, today they can enter the body through our food, air, water, household items and even through medical equipment used in hospitals.
Experts believe that plastic pollution should no longer be seen as just an environmental problem, but as a systemic health crisis.

Microplastics can enter the patient’s body even during treatment in hospitals. Microparticles of plastic can enter the body through treatments such as cardiac catheters, silicone breast implants, orthopedic implants, and intravenous (IV) fluids.
According to the report, you will be surprised to know that during one shift in the operation theatre, up to 9,258 microplastic particles per square meter were found.
Many times premature babies have to be kept in the Neonatal ICU (NICU). During this period, nutrition is supplied through their veins. Premature babies receiving IV feeding can have up to 115 microplastic particles in their bodies in just 72 hours.
Children’s plastic toys, building blocks, play mats and plastic-based paints used in homes have also been cited as major sources of microplastics. According to experts, over time, when paint is rubbed or removed, microscopic plastic particles spread in the air, which enter our body through the respiratory tract.

Scientists say that all the health effects of microplastics are not completely clear yet, but this is definitely a matter of concern.
