Marcus Rashford has stated that the possible change in kick-off time for England’s Round of 16 match against Mexico will not alter the team’s main objective.

England will face co-hosts Mexico in Mexico City, with the match originally scheduled to kick off at 1am BST on Monday, July 6. However, due to concerns over potential thunderstorms in the area, the fixture may be moved forward from 6pm local time to 12pm.

Rashford dismissed suggestions that the alteration in timing could put England at a disadvantage.

“No, it doesn’t matter,” said Rashford. “At the end of the day, it’s still a football match. We might have to make a small adjustment, but it doesn’t change our mindset or what we aim to achieve.”

He added, “Whatever happens and however the game unfolds, we’ll do our best to come out on top.”

The lead-up to this encounter has been largely focused on the altitude and Mexico’s formidable record at the Estadio Azteca — a venue where they have lost only twice in 89 games. The stadium stands 7,220 feet (2,240 metres) above sea level.

“In the end, it’s just football,” Rashford continued. “We’ve been playing since childhood, in all kinds of conditions and atmospheres — some easier, some really tough. It’s about finding a way to win regardless of the circumstances.”

“That’s our focus. Sometimes you rely on the teammate beside you, and he relies on the one next to him. It’s all about teamwork. If we stay united and perform close to our best, we’ll be fine.”
